We also sell used computers!

The first thing you'll probably notice when you walk into Computers 76 is that we are definitely NOT a "Computer Showroom". No high-contrast black halogen lamps on white desks proudly displaying the latest pre-built computers with password-protected screensavers here. Nobody will greet you in a white shirt and tie and call you "Sir" or "Ma'am" just because they want to make a sale. And most importantly, nobody will talk to you in technobabble to try and sell you the fastest computer in the world when they really don't know what they're talking about. We're real people here at Computers 76. Computer people who know what we're talking about. Our repair and system building benches are out in front where you can see them, not behind an "Employees Only" sign. And if you want to look over our shoulder while we work on your computer, not only will we let you but we'll probably show you what we're doing and why.

We've listened to Staples boast they have the lowest prices. We’ve heard from Gateway who wants to build a computer "just for you" - in Sioux City, South Dakota. Well, every single new computer we sell is built to order. Right here by us, not in some factory in LA. Even most small shops don't do that anymore. What does it get you? Accountablity for one. Personal service too -- remember that?

Now, we know that you know that you can get a cheaper computer at a "Big Box Store" than you can from us. The question is, do you want a big box store computer? I'm not going to trash the competition here (if you want me to do that, I'll do it here.) We have a simple philosophy at Computers 76. If we wouldn't put it in our own computer, we're not going to put it in yours. All new systems we build are built on an Asus motherboard. We use Kingston RAM, and IBM hard drives. Why? Because we know that they work, and work right.

When you buy a computer from Computers 76, you're most likely buying from the person who's going to put it together. We don't have a sales staff. In fact, we don't have any staff. Just two owners (and one of them has been relaxing on the beach in Indonesia for the past few months) and a couple of friends who help out. We're here because we enjoy what we do and want you to have a local shop where you'll feel at home.

We know that if your computer goes down, life can get ugly. No more Internet or e-mail. No more online banking. No more... The list goes on and on. We also know that it's going to be back on our bench, and like everyone else, we don't like doing the same job twice. The best way to prevent that is to build it right the first time. It's why we tend to avoid the latest and greatest and stick to what we know works. We have it on good authority (who I'll call a "technical support supervisor at a major computer component manufacturer" and leave it at that) that the current market strategy is to rush new stuff to release without being fully tested because customers want it now, not right. We don't buy it. While it might be OK for a computer nerd with too much time on his hands, would you rather have two month old technology that's reliable and less expensive (and as fast as you'll ever need), or the newest technology that doesn't act quite right? In six months, will it really matter if your computer is two nanoseconds slower than your friends? I'll bet you don't notice the speed difference, but you sure will notice if your computer's acting wierd!

Finally, we know the value of buying a computer from one of the people who's actually going to build it. Of buying from someone who will take the time to answer your questions. And of buying one from somone who'll be there to help you out after you take it home.

So before you decide to save a few dollars at a store where they send you out the door with a box and cut the rope, visit Computers 76. We take care of you.
